CD Numancia – RCD Mallorca: Just a point will suffice 🇬🇧

CD Numancia - RCD Mallorca: Just a point will sufficeRCD Mallorca return to action after their rest last weekend with renewed determination to solidify their place in the top six. Favourable results last weekend saw RCD Mallorca return to the play off places without kicking a ball, and an ever elusive away victory this weekend would further strengthen their case. In truth though, given our current away record, just a point will suffice.

This weekend will offer a stern test once more, with CD Numancia offering more than their lowly league position suggests. Granada and Málaga can both attest to this, the former being beaten and the latter only taking a point from visits to CD Numancia in recent weeks.

Once more it falls to this group of players to play above all preseason expectations. Who will it be to step up and make themselves a hero? Antonio Raillo was the man in Las Palmas and this season will need some more heroic performances before it is out. They will have to do it without manager Vicente Moreno on the sideline, banned following his sending off two weeks ago.

Recent Segunda division results have thrown up some surprises leading to close rivals unexpectedly dropping points. This weekend will be no different with several rivals facing off against each other. An away win here and there will make all the difference come the end of the season.

Rival Watch

Form side Sporting Gijón host second place Granada, Deportivo La Coruña visit top of the table Osasuna and Albacete face in on a roll Elche CF. Vermillion supporters will be hoping that Pepe Mel’s Las Palmas can rediscover their home form against Cadiz.

It is down to RCD Mallorca to take advantage of other side’s stumbles. That begins away to Numancia On Sunday. Let’s hope that the Son Moix version of the squad arrives in Numancia and not the one that travels to the peninsula.

Real Mallorca Team News

RCD Mallorca come into the game refreshed from their two week break but with concerns over the fitness of left back loanee Pervis Estupiñan. The Ecuadorian will likely be replaced by Salva Ruiz if he is unable to take his place. Vicente Moreno is banned from the touchline and will not take his place on the bench. Aridai once again made an impact from the bench and may start as a result. Abdon Prats is pushing for a starting place ahead of Ante Budimir who has looked out of sorts lately after a strong start to his RCD Mallorca career. I expect Moreno may make both of these changes.

The Form

Numancia are 6 points ahead of safety and still fighting for their lives. In their last two home games they have beaten Granada 2-1 and
Drawn 1-1 with Malaga.

Since Christmas, RCD Mallorca’s away form has seen them lose 4, draw 2 and win 1 solitary game in Las Palmas. The Vermillion will need this to change and quickly to mount a series top six challenge as the league table constricts around those key spots. In truth, even just a point will suffice.

Prediction

Pervis Estupiñan’s absence, if it transpires, will be a huge blow for the side in attack and defence. Despite that, Numancia’s recent home form against top sides has been strong and this presents a really tough task for the Vermillion. At this crucial stage and with their season long record away from Son Moix being so poor, a draw would be a very satisfactory result.
